What if the Christmas season didn’t go so well?

Dear friends

Happy new year to all of you. I hope it has been a time of rest, play, laughter and togetherness. If you are reading to this point and feeling a tinge of disappointment with the way Christmas or new year went, I want you to stay with me here. I want to say this to you.

It is ok.

It is ok that you didn’t have the best Christmas in 2018.

It is ok that you did not have the best well-orchestrated Christmas lunch as you had planned for.

It is ok that instead of having a beautifully planned family lunch around the dining table, you had to change plans and get take away.

It is ok that your new year’s eve wasn’t as picture perfect as the others you saw on social media.

I want to let you know, that it is ok.

We can only plan, but He the giver and taker has a different plan for us. In our plans, we don’t see the end point, but in His eyes, He works all things for His good.

But we need to remember, that in our sorrows, He lifts us gently.

In our laughter, He fills our hearts with fullness.

But He who knows the end, also knows what you have endured this last Christmas and New Year.

In our disappointments and wishful thinking for better relationships during this festive season, He sees our heart and gives us grace and understanding.

He knows the pain you felt when all that you were confronted with was more resentment and bitterness. He saw your silent tears.

Don’t let that season gone turn you away from the joy of the days to come. Maybe people around you are talking about their holidays now, and you feel ashamed to admit the letdown of the season. Maybe you are standing in the corner, too hurt to even describe that season gone. Maybe all you can do is give them a smile and hope no one asked you about yours.

Lean on His grace. Ask Him for comfort. Let Him speak into your spirit, that you will feel comforted for the year to come.

Let His grace turn your sorrow of the bygones into an expectant joy of the future.

Let God into your space, he can handle your disappointments. He already knows your heart, there is no need for pretence.

There is freedom in that place.

Let go of that hurt, surrender that place into His hands.

Wishing you well into 2019, with a refreshing touch and enough Grace to fill your day.
